TORONTO – AthletesCAN, the association of Canada’s national team athletes, released the following statement following the Government of British Columbia’s decision not to support the 2030 Winter Olympic & Paralympic bid:

We are disappointed in the Provincial Government’s announcement not to endorse the Indigenous-led bid for the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The vision initiated by the Four Host First Nations, together with the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Committees had tremendous potential as a model bid among all partners, particularly in regards to Truth and Reconciliation.

We are encouraged by the leadership demonstrated by our country to leave a lasting impact, including for national team athletes, and look forward to the differences we can all continue to make in our communities.
