AthletesCAN, the association of Canada’s national team athletes, is proud to announce the launch of Athlete Representation Training (ART) eLearning modules to its roster of resources for members.
Building on the traditional Athlete Director, Athlete Representation and Athletes’ Council guides originally launched last year, the new modules transform each guide into a digital, interactive format. Each module is led by an AthletesCAN member and features engaging exercises, educational videos and short quizzes, aimed at supporting athletes who wish to represent the athlete voice to their respective National Sport Organization (NSO).
“Having athlete representation at all levels of an NSO is vital for creating an athlete-centred culture within the NSO and ensuring the needs of athletes are met. These new modules will allow our members to gain support, leadership skill development and a significant level of confidence, comfort and knowledge in representing their voice and those of their teammates to advocate for accountability and transparency within their sport.”
The launch comes following the Canadian Athlete Assembly organized by AthletesCAN, the Canadian Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission (COC AC) and the Canadian Paralympic Committee Athletes’ Council (CPC AC). All three athlete representation groups continue to work together with the Federal Government and sport partners to build a safer, more welcoming sport environment across the country.
The eLearning modules were developed by Learning 4 Excellence, an Ottawa-based firm specializing in online education, that provides professional, personalized learning experiences designed to achieve success in all facets of life.
Learning 4 Excellence is well-connected to the Canadian sport system, with current and past clients featuring several NSOs and National Multisport Service Organizations (MSOs), including Athletics Canada, Baseball Canada, Canada Basketball, Canada Soccer, Rowing Canada, Softball Canada, Volleyball Canada, Canadian Women & Sport, the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), Special Olympics Canada, Sport for Life Society, and the Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC).
In addition, the company has worked with the Professional Golfers’ Association of Canada, as well as the International Skating Union (ISU).
“Given the importance of athletes having a voice within their sport organizations, we are proud to have a key role in the development of these learning opportunities in partnership with AthletesCAN. We believe that empowering athletes to be leaders within sport organizations and helping them develop the skills and knowledge to be effective Board and Committee members is critical to the future health and success of these organizations, as well as the athletes within them.”
Each module takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete and can be accessed on the CAC Locker under the Multi-sport tab, by logging in with a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) number or email address and password.
AthletesCAN has trained over 2500 athlete representatives via one-on-one consultations, team meetings, and through the annual AthletesCAN Forum since 1992. These new eLearning modules will allow athlete representatives full access to athlete leader education year-round.
